Content Reader Overview

This article provides an overview of the Creative Edge Content Reader.

There are many ways you can customize your reading and viewing experience, using the toolbar at the top of the Content Reader, the Navigation panel at the left, the Related Content links at the bottom of the page, and keyboard shortcuts.

Bookmarks

Create a Bookmark on a page in one of three ways:

  1. Click the Bookmark icon at the top left of the book.
  2. Click the top right corner of the book page (click again to remove it).
  3. Keyboard Shortcut: b

Access all your Bookmarks for this book by clicking the Bookmarks section in the left panel.

  1. Click any record to open the book to that page.
  2. Delete a Bookmark using the icon at the right of the record.

Note / Tag

Create a Note or Tag on a page in three ways.

  1. Highlight some text. Then select Add Note/Tag from the menu that will display, to create a Note or Tag that is in line with the text. Note: This option is not available in HTML view or if you do not have Flash installed.
  2. Click the Note/Tag icon at the top left of the page to create a Note or Tag about the whole page.
  3. If you have a corporate account, depending on the terms of your subscription, you may be able to share your notes with others in your company.
  4. Keyboard Shortcut: t

Access all your Notes for this book by clicking the Notes section at the left of this page.

  1. Click any record to open the book to that page. Click the Note title to view the note open on that page. Delete a Note using the icon at the right of the record. Deselect the check box to remove the Note icons from the page.
  2. Click the SHOW ON PAGE checkbox at the left, if you want the note icons to show on the book pages.

Highlighting Text

Select any text on the page to highlight it. When you highlight text, you will also have the option of adding a Note or Tag to the highlighted text. Note: This option is not available in the HTML view or if you do not have Flash installed.

TIP: From the book?s Catalog Page or from the My Collection page you will be able to print the text you have highlighted by clicking PRINT NOTES. Note: This option is not available in the HTML view or if you do not have Flash installed.

Download

Downloads of content are provided for some subscription levels and some titles.

  1. Click the Download icon and follow the onscreen instructions to download content.
  2. Keyboard Shortcut: d

Print

Click the Print icon to print this page.

HTML View

Click the HTML button to switch between viewing the page in Flash or in HTML. If you do not have Flash installed, the HTML button will switch between the image-based Print Fidelity view and the HTML view.

Thumbnail

Click the Thumbnail icon to view small versions of all pages in this book.
Click it again to return to the full-sized version of the page. Note: Thumbnail view is not available in the HTML view or if you do not have Flash installed.

Keyboard Shortcut: v

Zoom

Click the magnifying glass icons to increase or decrease the page size.

  1. Keyboard Shortcut?Increase zoom by 10%: +
  2. Keyboard Shortcut?Decrease zoom by 10%: -

Note: If you do not have Flash installed, only two zoom levels are available in the image-based Print Fidelity view.

Two Pages View

Click the Two Pages View icon to display two pages at once.  Click it again to return to viewing a single page.

Grab Mode

Click the Grab Mode icon to use the mouse to scroll.   When you are in grab mode the mouse pointer will change to a hand.  Click the mouse button to grab a section of a page, then use the mouse to scroll.  Click the mouse button again to release the page.

Fit Page and Fit Width

Click the Fit Page icon to display the entire book page on your screen.
Keyboard Shortcut: q

Click the Fit Width icon to expand the book page to the width of the screen

Note: This option is not available in the HTML view or if you do not have Flash installed.

Full/Normal Screen

  1. Click FULL SCREEN to increase the space available to read the book.
  2. Click NORMAL SCREEN to see the navigation items around the book page.

Page Turn and Vertical Scroll

You can navigate through the pages of a book in many ways.

  1. Click the page turn icons at the top right to turn the pages.
  2. Keyboard Shortcuts? next page: Right arrow key, n
  3. Keyboard shortcuts? previous page: Left arrow key, p
  4. Use the scroll bar to move vertically through the book pages.
  5. Use the scroll wheel on your mouse to move vertically.
  6. Use the space bar to move forward a screen at a time.
  7. Use the Page Down key and the Page Up key to move forward or backward a screen at a time.
  8. Click above or below the scroll bar at the right of the page to move forward or backward a screen at a time.
  9. Keyboard Shortcut? scroll by 1/50 of book page: mouse scroll wheel
  10. Keyboard Shortcut?beginning of book: Home key. Note: This option is not available in the HTML view or if you do not have Flash installed.
  11. Keyboard Shortcut?end of book: End key. Note: This option is not available in HTML view or if you do not have Flash installed.
  12. Use the Content section (displays the Table of Contents) at the left of this page to jump to a different section of the book.

URL for Page

Click the URL button to see the URL for the specific page you are viewing

Show Search Terms

Select the SHOW SEARCH TERMS check box to see your search terms highlighted in the text. Deselect the check box to remove the highlighting.

Return to Search Results

If you came to this book page from Search Results, click the Return to Search Results link at the top left of the book page to return to the Search Results page.

Search Inside Book

Use the search field in the left sidebar to search within the book.

  1. Type a search term in Search text entry field and click GO.
  2. The search results list that displays will be sorted by RELEVANCY.
  3. Click SEQUENTIAL to display the search results within this book in descending sequential order.
  4. Click the Search Results link to open the book to the specific page for that result, with the snippet displayed on the page.

Start a New Search

While you are viewing a title, you can use a keyboard shortcut to place your cursor in the Quick Search text entry box and Start a New Search.

Click any section of the Table of Contents to navigate directly to that section of the book and begin reading.

Related Reading

Links to related content now display at the bottom of the pages of text. Use the buttons SHOW, SHOW MORE, SHOW FEWER, and HIDE to control the number of links to related content you wish to display.

Add to Favorite

If you want to save the title you are viewing or reading to your Favorites, click the ADD TO FAVORITES button. From the menu that displays, select a Folder or create a new folder for this title.

Review

Click REVIEW THIS BOOK and complete the review form that displays.

  1. Reader Reviews are posted publicly on the Overview section of the title?s Catalog page within 24 hours of submission.
  2. You can edit or delete Reviews of this book that you have written.
  3. To manage or view all your Reviews, select the Reviews tab in My Collection

Using a Book's Index

Different publishers whose books are available in Creative Edge have designed the index portions of their books to function in different ways.

  1. For some books, the page number(s) appearing after the index entry is a link. Clicking the page number will display that page.
  2. For some books, the page number appearing after the index entry does not appear to be a link. However, clicking the page number will display the page.
  3. For some books, the text of the index entry is a link. Clicking the text of the index entry will display the page containing that information.
  4. For some books, neither the index entry nor the page number is a link. In such cases, use the Thumbnail view (keyboard shortcut v) to access the desired page.
